http://www.maxframe.com DRDOS http://dosemu.sourceforge.net/docs/README/1.1.3.7/x991.html DOSNET virtual dev. ========================== ASAP program c:\asap\asap.com lt com1 @My7s6v9f The s stands for speed, so 7 is fairly fast. Try 5, and it will sound better to you--which would drive me crazy, as it is far too slow [grin]. Typically, I run that synth on 8 or even 9, as it is slower than the ones I use here. The v is for volume. Yes, the synth has its own volume control, but you can also set the volume from the software. I preset the hardware volume, and then normally change it through the software as I see fit. Usually, the range is from 5-8 that I use most. I try to set it to optimize the signal to noise ratio. The "f" feature is the one that sets the clarity of the speech. 9f is optimal. The other settings are less clear--more muffled. Some people play with thepitch and even set up a different sounding voice, but I do not bother. If you want toplay with it, p is for pitch, and it accepts numbers from 1-8 to set the pitch so 5p or 7p are settings that give different pitches. You can change these at any time after asap is running by hitting keypad 0, the command key, then a number on the main keyboard, then the corresponding letter. The keypad has to have numlock set--asap does this when it boots. Leave it set, or it cannot be used to instruct asap. The normal numbers on the keypad direct the "reading cursor" This is an invisible cursor that moves around the screen, and reads the designated portion. There are many ways to do this--a very many number of ways. It works conceptually like looking through a tiny pinhole at the computer screen. To see anything, you would have to know where to look--row, column, line, window, or whatever. ASAP has flexibility to define these areas, and read them in general, specifically, or when things happen--such as information appearing, or disappearing. ASAP is called automatic, as it tries to anticipate some things--it will try always to read the active parts of the screen. So, when you type, it reads what you type. You can direct the reading by hitting keypad 0, the command key, and asap will say "next", then an alphabetic letter, for example. This will read that row on the screen--from a-y. You can read the current line again by just hitting keypad 8--the previous line by hitting keypad 7, and the next line by hitting keypad 9. The current word is read by hitting keypad 5--the previous word by hitting keypad 4, and the next word by hitting keypad 6. Yes, and characters are 1, 2, and 3--following the same logical pattern. --------------------- start and configure network net ifconfig encap 192.168.3.11 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.3.255
